Diversity is very popular today in the school systems here in Arizona. ASU is “one of the nations largest and culturally diverse public research institution” according to Delia Saenz. At ASU 23% of the students are of color. Of those 23%; 12% are Hispanic, 5% Asian American, 4% African American, and 2 % American Indian. That is a lot of people from different backgrounds and different lifestyles all at ASU pursuing the same thing, Education. How can diversity help me? First off diversity is a way you meet new people who are completely different to you. These people have different ways of living, if you experience the way they live and are it expands the way you look at life. At ASU there are “63,278 students from all 50 states of the US and 141 international countries". Which means that you can meet a person from Alaska as easy as a person from Iraq. Diversity brings different cultures to the table and gives different cultures to unite and work together. Diversity is not only at school it is every where. It’s at work, the street, stores. The US is becoming more diverse as time passes. You must be prepared for diversity if you are not because soon the world will be a diverse place. As the president of ASU Michael Crow says “We must find ways to reach into all our communities with warmth and Openness. We need to embrace cultural diversification in America and changing the culture of a University is the first step”.
